How It Works

Carsharing at Sofishare is different from conventional carsharing options because the cars and bicycles in our network belong to people just like you. We call this "person-to-person" carsharing. Sofishare provides its vehicle-contributing members with many tools to make the process of renting out their cars or bicycles as safe and convenient as possible. Even if it's for just a few hours per week or per month, you can convert your car or bicycle into an income-generating asset and help the environment at the same time. If you're a Participating member (i.e., without a vehicle), the range of vehicles, locations and terms at your disposal will be as diverse and extensive as the network.

How does this work, practically speaking? Here's an example:

Sofishare member Jasmine, who lives in New York City, wants a pickup truck to get some materials on a Saturday morning. After looking at the options on the Reservations page, she decides on Bob23's pickup, since his rates are pretty good and he doesn't require a high feedback score. (Jasmine is a new member...) She requests a reservation from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, and just for good measure, sends Bob23 a message on the Sofishare Messaging page, to indtroduce herself a little.

Bob23 gets an email notifying him of the details of Jasmine's request, and goes online to find out more about her. Since she has requested a reservation from him, this allows him to see her Member Profile. There, he sees a magnifying glass icon next to her name, which tells him that no other member has checked to see that she has a valid driver's license. He also sees that she does have a feedback score of one flower , and checking her renter feedback through the menu on the "Reservations For My Car" page, he sees that indeed she has rented once before, from Sofishare member "Jaztec". Jaztec left positive feedback for Jasmine, but forgot to check her license, which is why the icon is still by her name.

Bob23 goes to the Messaging page and asks Jasmine by email whether she has a valid driver's license, and Jasmine responds that she does. On the "Reservations For My Car" page Bob23 decides to confirm rather than decline the reservation request, after which Jasmine pays in advance with PayPal, since she said she would. When she comes to pick up the car he asks to see her license, and sure enough, it's just as she said. At the end of the rental, Jasmine brings back the pickup safe and sound, and Bob23 leaves positive feedback for her on the "Feedback" page, where he also indicates that he checked her driver's license and that it was ok.

The next time Jasmine requests a reservation from someone they will see that she has a positive feedback score, and the magnifying glass icon will no longer appear next to her name.
