Insurance

What happens, in terms of insurance, if there's an accident? As you might expect, this depends on your insurance policy and on the policies of any other people who may be involved. If you're not sure what your policy covers, ask your insurance company or agent - and be an informed consumer: check out your policy details yourself, first.

In the US, many insurance policies extend the same coverage that you have, as the owner of your vehicle, to another person to whom you give permission to drive your car, a so-called "permissive driver". But if you accept money in exchange for letting them use your car, some insurers may balk or refuse to cover what would have otherwise have been covered if money had not been part of the picture. Get to know who and what your policy covers before letting anyone else drive your vehicle.

If you live in a part of the world where insurance does not dictate everything, then lucky for you, and hopefully you can keep it that way! In general, there is a lot of potential for injury, physical and other, when on the road, both for yourself and for others. So whatever the regulatory environment where you live, be careful and conduct your transactions in accordance with the law.

What if I rent my vehicle to someone, and then they steal it? Check with your insurance agent, but it may be difficult to recover from your insurance company after having given the keys to the renter/thief.

Account Options

Can I list more than one vehicle? Yes, individual members can list the vehicles they personally own. Simply go to the My Account page and click on the "Add a Vehicle" button.

Can I change the rates for my vehicle? Yes, you can change the rates for your vehicle at any time by going to the My Account page and specifying a new rate.

Can I change my personal photo? Yes. On the My Member Profile page, accessible from the My Account page, there is an option to to change your member profile photo.

Privacy & Security

Can I make my vehicle invisible without canceling my account? Yes, simply go to the My Vehicle page and click on the "Take Offline" button.

If I cancel my account, will my member profile or vehicle profile remain visible? No. Your member profile and any vehicle profiles you may have had will be removed and archived.

Does Sofishare conduct background checks on its members or verify that what members say about their driving history and documentation is true? No, Sofishare does not do this kind of background check. Because Sofishare is international in scope, to check every member's driving record would be very expensive and would not permit us to offer this as a free service. Ideally, there would be a free, up-to-date international database that we or you could check against, but there isn't, so you have to take precautions yourself: look at licenses, insurance documents, vehicle documents, feedback scores - everything you can until you're comfortable with the risks involved.

If there is a rental dispute, will Sofishare mediate or intervene on my behalf? No, Sofishare will not mediate or intervene in the transactions between its members, who are soley responsible for their rental transactions and their consequences.

Can I change my username? No. We want everyone to know who they're dealing with, so changing usernames is not possible.
